Chapter 4

I turn around to see his black hair reflecting off the moonlight. I could stay in this position forever. The smell of his cologne takes my breath away, as I turn around to face him.

“Forgive me?” How could I stay mad at those eyes? I nod.

He starts to lean his head in. Once I realize what he’s doing I decide to play along. I lean my head in and close my eyes. Our lips meet at the center. His lips are soft on mine as he puts his hands on my cheeks. My mind is going blank. Where am I? What’s happening? All that I can make out is Bruno’s lips on mine. I pull away to gather my thoughts, and Bruno looks worried.

“Was that bad? ‘Cuz I can do better…” he stumbles through his words. I put my finger on his lips. “Practice makes perfect.” I whisper in his ear and jump up on him. He holds my thighs as I wrap my arms around his smooth neck and gently kiss him again.

Through my eyelids I can see blue and red lights flash. I quickly open them to see a cop car heading right down the street where you can get a perfect view of two minors out past curfew. “Shit” I mumble under my breath as I pull away. “What’s up?” Bruno asks as I begin running out of the water as he starts to follow.

“Cops!” I say to him. “They catch me again I’m screwed!” I loud-whisper to him as we run up the beach.

“Ooo a girl with a record! I like…” He says in a seductive voice with a sly smile.

“Shut up!” I throw him his shirt, grab my skateboard and hide in between a couple palm trees. Bruno puts on his shirt and stands next to me.

“What’d ya do last time?” He whispers as we watch the cop pass us. I take a breath and answer him.

“I was caught after dark with some bad people. Then it turned into this whole scandal and…” I trail off. “It doesn’t matter anymore. It’s over. Let’s not talk about it.”

“Okay, okay. But can I tell you a secret?”

“Sure what is i?” He leans in to whisper something in my ear, but takes another path for my lips. I wrap my arms around his neck and run my fingers through his tight curls. We stand there for a moment, and I realize I’m caught up in him. I pull away before my mind goes blank and I stay there forever. “I’ve always wanted to do that,” he whispers in my ear. I give him a peck on the lips and check and see that the cop is all gone. The coast is clear so I take my board and lay it on the cement. I feel Bruno’s hand grab my elbow, just like the first time we had met.

“Where are you going?” He asks.

“Uh… Home?”

“What do you mean home? The dates not over yet!” He gives me a smile like he has something else planned.

“Bruno it’s almost 10!” I laugh at the thought of how long we were in the water.

“Oh come on! Live a little! Will anybody miss you at home?” I think back to home. Ronnie will understand if I come home late, my mom won’t care, and my brother is not going to be home until late.

“Uhh… No not really,” “Okay so we are stayin’ up late tonight!” He says with a smile. “Wait, won’t anybody know if you’re gone?” “Nope! My mom and dad think I came on this side of the island with my bud Phil for a camping trip.” “Well where’s Phil now?” He laughs to himself, “In a tent

somewhere in the forest.” We both laugh together, put our boards down, and start skating on the cement.
