Chapter 5

I had a good day shopping with Lilah. We both bought heaps of clothes, and sat down and had a good coffee together. I told Lilah about the Bruno Mars concert, when he sang to me and the backstage interview. I decided it would be best to leave out the bit where we met at the coffee shop, he came to my apartment and we kissed, three times. As a major Bruno fan, she wouldn't be able to look at me the same.

I dropped her off at her house, before going to my apartment. I struggled up the stairs with all my bags, but got a shock when two big men were sitting at the step near my door. It seemed like they had been there for some time. I was a bit scared to approach them.

"Can I help you?" I asked calmly.

They stood up. "Are you Aria?" I nodded. One got out his phone and began calling someone. I couldn't make out what he was saying though. The man handed the phone to me. I put all my bags down and the men proceeded to hold them all for me. It was weird.

"Hello?"

"Hey. Are you busy?" It was Bruno. I could almost feel myself blushing at the sound of his voice.

"No, I'm free. Sending your bodyguards to do your dirty work for you, hey?"

He laughed. "I'm just finishing up some stuff in the studio, but I wanted to see you."

"How long have these guys been here for?"

"A hour tops. Maybe two."

"Bruno!" I couldn't help but blush now. "Why didn't you just call me?"

"I did."

I looked at my phone, there were 3 missed calls under 'Peter'.

"Oops, I'm so sorry" I turned to the security guards. "I'm sorry to have you guys waiting out here for so long. I feel bad"

"Don't worry. We got a glare from an old lady. But it's cool."

"I like your bodyguards. They're cool. I still don't get why they are here." I said.

"So they can take you to the studio. I wouldn't want you to get lost."

Bruno seemed over protective. It was cute.

"Well there's no arguing with a Grammy winning artist, is there? I'll be there soon."

The studio was on top of a restaurant called the Pancake Parlor. You never would have guess there was a quaint, old studio on the floor above it. The entrance was at the back of the building. After going up a spiral staircase and following a hallway to the end, I found a door that had a small glass window on it. Phil was at the sound board, moving switches up and down. I could faintly hear Bruno singing. I knocked quietly and Phil told me to come in, but put his finger to his lip, and pointed at Bruno.

Bruno was in the small sound booth, singing. I picked up a piece of paper that had the songs lyrics scrambled on it. I followed the words with Bruno's voice.

"You shot me through the heart staring in your eyes, so I might die a happy man today, just empty out your barrel girl, it's alright, click clack away..."

Bruno was so into his music. His eyes were closed, and he had so much feeling the way he sang.

Me and Phil bobbed along to the music. The beat was great.

"He wrote this demo in like, half an hour" whispered Phil. "Thats a miracle in song writing time. It's gonna be a hit".

"Any song Bruno writes is a hit." I found it weird Phil didn't ask about why I was there. He just accepted me like a friend he'd known for a long time even though we only had one encounter.

Bruno stopped singing. His eyes opened and his mouth turned into a smile when he saw me. He's so cute.

"That's nice to know."

"Oops. Did I say that out loud?" I was embarrassed.

"Sure did." Phil laughed at me. "Don't worry, he really likes you Aria. I haven't seen him this happy for a while." Phil's words re assured me. I was worried I would just be another one of Bruno's one time flings.

Bruno came out of the booth and gave me a hug.

"This studio has character. It's nice." I stated.

"Thats why we record here. Plus Pancake Parlor is merely a few steps away. You like pancakes, right?"

"Of course."

"Cool. Pancake picnic it is." he rubbed his hands together before giving Phil a high five.

"The song is coming along man. We should do one more take." said Phil.

"If you don't mind me butting in.." I said, "Pancake Picnic? Isn't it a bit cold to be going out for a picnic? It's practically snowing outside"

"Not in my world, baby."

He went back into the booth and did another take of the song. He didn't take his eyes off me while he was singing.

The room had white blankets draped over the walls, and also draping to form a cave like cover over me and Bruno. Projectors showed images of a sunny park behind us. It was very romantic, and sweet. We ate our pancakes and were laying next to each other on the picnic rug, facing the ceiling. I almost forgot that it was cold and snowing outside. He held my hand, and I could feel his finger running over my palm.

"I don't get it." I said. Bruno asked me what I was talking about. "You're Bruno Mars. You sing songs about how amazing and beautiful girls are. You are gorgeous inside and out. Because of that you could be with any girl on this planet, but you choose to be with me."

"You know, I heard the girls on Mars like me too. Not just this planet" I giggled.

"What's so special about the girl at the coffee shop who didn't even know who you were?" I asked. Bruno pursed his lips together.

"It was nice to be treated genuinely for once, not just because of your fame. Don't get me wrong, you still treated me like those other girls that go googley eyed over the sight of me, but it was nice cause I felt myself doing the same to you. And why I am here with you today? It's because I like you. A lot."

I didn't know what to say to him. No one had ever said anything like that to me. It was the sweetest thing I'd ever heard.

"You know that song I was recording in the studio was about you."

"The way you were looking at me in the studio didn't hint that to me or anything" we both laughed. We flipped over onto our stomachs and our bodies touched. I felt my phone fall out of my pocket and under my leg, but ignored it. I looked at the room that was set up for us, it was truly magical. I felt Bruno kiss me on the cheek.

"I never kiss on the first date you know. You had a very special exception last night." I turned and smiled at him.

"God, I can't get that smile of yours out of my head." he said. He moved a strand of hair out of my face.

"I can't get your smile out of my head. You have cute dimples too though."

"Can I just kiss you already?" said Bruno. "I've had to resist you all night."

I put my lips close to his. He closed his eyes.

"Nope. You can wait mister Bruno out of this world Mars."

His jaw dropped. "We will see about that!"

I got up and began running around the room. He chased me left and right, until he had me in a corner. He began tickling me, and I couldn't stop laughing. Tears nearly came out of my eyes from laughing so hard.

"Okay! Okay!" I put my hands up to surrender. We both had to catch our breath from laughing so hard. I couldn't stop giggling.

"Okay, Kiss me." I said. And he did. It was beautiful. Even when we were kissing, I was still giggling.  He began to kiss my neck. I cringed.

"Hold up soldier. What's the time?"

He checked his phone. "It's 11.30, you wanna go home?"

"If that's okay with you. I need to put all my new clothes away."

"Mr. Hernandez is okay with that. I'll go get the car ready, meet you at the back door, okay?" He gave me a kiss on the cheek.

I went to grab my bag, and noticed my phone on the floor. When I picked it up, I noticed it was in the middle of a call. On the screen, it said 'Lilah'. My heart sank. I slowly held the phone to my ear. "Hello?"

I heard a dial tone and the phone hung up.
